Jalen Green is embracing a fresh start in Phoenix after being traded from the Rockets in a blockbuster seven-team deal that sent Kevin Durant to Houston.
Speaking to reporters at NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, the 23-year-old shooting guard shared his thoughts on the move. “I’m super excited. Great organization, great people,” Green said. “It’s going to be fun… we’re going to surprise a lot of people.”
The 2021 No. 2 overall pick leaves behind a four-year stint in Houston where he averaged 20.1 points per game across 307 regular season appearances. He started every game in all four seasons and helped lead the Rockets to the playoffs in 2025, though they were eliminated in the first round.
Green admitted the trade was difficult emotionally. “It hurts. Houston is home to me and forever will be,” he said. “But it’s a business. I’m thankful I have the opportunity to play basketball for another team that has been in the playoffs and to win basketball in general.”
In Phoenix, Green will join a revamped Suns roster headlined by Devin Booker. While some have questioned how the two high-volume scorers will coexist, Green expressed full confidence in their fit. “We’re two people who know how to score the basketball… you got to pick who you want to score tonight,” he said.
Green also praised head coach Jordan Ott for quickly establishing communication. “Coach is amazing. He’s already been sending me film, bringing me into the office,” he said. “He knows what he wants from me and I know what I need to do.”
Alongside Green, veteran wing Dillon Brooks was also part of the trade. Green credited Brooks as a major influence in his development and is glad to continue their partnership in Phoenix. “That’s one person who’s pushed me to keep working… to have him come with me is a big step,” Green said.
Despite Phoenix missing the playoffs last season, Green believes the team has the tools to turn things around quickly. “People don’t expect us to do anything,” he said. “It’s the same story like last year in Houston. We’re coming in hungry.”
The Suns now feature a backcourt built around two prolific scorers. Green, who averaged 21.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in 2024-25, is expected to play a major role in Ott’s offense.
“I’m ready to work and I’m ready to get us to the playoffs,” Green said when asked for a message to Suns fans.
