The Boston Celtics are actively engaged in trade discussions centered on guard Anfernee Simons, according to multiple reports this week.
RealGM cited ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, who said Wednesday on the Hoop Collective Podcast that Boston has been reaching out to teams about moving Simons just days after acquiring him from the Portland Trail Blazers in the Jrue Holiday deal.
“I have talked to other teams who have said they are actively trying to trade Anfernee Simons,” Windhorst reported. “Whether they can or not is another [thing].”
Simons, 26, is entering the final year of his contract worth $27.7 million and is represented by agent Bill Duffy. The guard was sent to Boston on July 7 in exchange for Holiday as part of the Celtics’ ongoing roster reshuffle this offseason.
The seven-year veteran is coming off a strong season with Portland, where he averaged 19.3 points, 4.8 assists, and 2.7 rebounds over 70 games in 2024–25.
Despite his offensive production, his expiring deal and Boston’s current backcourt depth have fueled speculation that the team sees him more as a trade asset than a long-term fit.
Since being drafted in 2018, Simons has developed into a reliable scorer and shooter. Over his career, he has averaged 15.0 points while shooting 38.1% from three-point range, and he posted a career-high 22.6 points per game during the 2023–24 campaign.
The Celtics appear focused on leveraging his value while he remains on an expiring contract, potentially to address other roster needs or create future financial flexibility.
At this stage, no deal appears imminent, but league sources say Boston remains in active dialogue with multiple teams. Whether they can find a suitable trade partner before the start of the season remains to be seen.
Simons has appeared in 389 regular-season games and 15 playoff contests, bringing experience and offensive versatility that could appeal to a number of teams looking for scoring punch.
