Chet Holmgren and the Oklahoma City Thunder have finalized an agreement on a fully guaranteed, five-year maximum rookie contract extension.
The deal has the potential to be worth up to $250 million, contingent on Holmgren meeting specific performance-based benchmarks.
One key provision in the contract is the possibility of triggering the “Rose Rule,” which allows for a higher salary cap percentage if the player earns honors such as selection to an All-NBA team or is named Defensive Player of the Year.
Holmgren is represented by agent Bill Duffy, and without this extension, he would have been eligible to become a restricted free agent in the summer of 2026.
During the most recent NBA season, the big man played in 32 games for the Thunder, averaging 15.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.2 blocks per game while logging 27.4 minutes per contest.
After recovering from a fractured pelvis, Holmgren returned to action and played a vital role in helping lead Oklahoma City to their first-ever NBA championship.
It’s also worth noting that the center sat out the entirety of his original rookie campaign due to a torn ligament in his right foot.
Despite early setbacks, when fully healthy, Holmgren has consistently demonstrated the ability to be one of the league’s most promising and impactful young two-way frontcourt players.
