The Los Angeles Lakers have announced the hiring of Justin Robinson as a player development coach, according to a statement from Duke University’s men’s basketball program shared on Twitter.
Robinson, who played for Duke for five seasons, concluded his collegiate career in the 2019/20 season.
After college, the 28-year-old Robinson spent three years playing professionally overseas in Montenegro and Israel before making a return to his alma mater as part of the coaching staff.
In November 2023, Robinson took on the role of director of player development at Duke, a position that allowed him to cultivate his coaching skills and work closely with young athletes.
Now, he is set to bring that experience to the Lakers’ organization.
Lakers head coach JJ Redick, himself a former Duke standout, is likely well acquainted with Robinson’s background and reputation.
Adding to Robinson’s basketball pedigree, he is the son of NBA Hall of Famer David Robinson, which only enhances the expectations around his potential impact with the Lakers.
