The Memphis Grizzlies have reached an agreement with center Jock Landale, adding the veteran big man to their roster following his release from the Houston Rockets.
Landale cleared waivers earlier this offseason and now joins a Memphis frontcourt that is navigating injuries and reshuffling its depth chart.
This move comes in tandem with the Grizzlies’ decision to trade Jay Huff to the Indiana Pacers.
That deal was primarily designed to clear cap space in order to renegotiate and extend the contract of Jaren Jackson Jr., who remains a central piece of Memphis’ long-term plans.
However, the trade also left Memphis thinner at the center position, particularly with both Jackson and rookie Zach Edey recovering from offseason surgeries. Jackson is rehabbing from a turf toe procedure, while Edey underwent ankle surgery.
Bringing in Landale helps stabilize the Grizzlies’ interior rotation as the team prepares for training camp.
The 6-foot-11 Australian center appeared in 50 games for the Houston Rockets last season, where he averaged 4.8 points and 3.3 rebounds across 11.9 minutes per game.
Though not a high-usage player, Landale has proven capable of providing energy, rim protection, and reliable minutes off the bench when called upon.
With Memphis managing multiple injury concerns and making strategic cap decisions, Landale’s arrival offers both flexibility and immediate help for a team aiming to return to playoff contention in the upcoming season.
