The Indiana Pacers have reached an agreement to acquire center Jay Huff from the Memphis Grizzlies in a move that benefits both teams’ short-term needs and long-term plans.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Indiana will send Memphis a future second-round pick along with the right to swap another second-rounder at a later date.

The trade allows Memphis to shed a bit of salary, creating more flexibility under the cap as they prepare to renegotiate and extend All-Star forward Jaren Jackson Jr.’s contract.

The Grizzlies have been maneuvering carefully to open up space for what could be a sizable new deal for Jackson, who remains a centerpiece of the team’s future.

Meanwhile, Indiana gains some much-needed depth at the center position in the 26-year-old Huff, who is coming off his most productive NBA stint to date.

In limited action with the Grizzlies last season, Huff averaged 6.9 points, 1.0 blocks, and 2.7 rebounds per game while shooting efficiently in just under 12 minutes per night.

His size and shot-blocking ability provide the Pacers with a valuable low-cost option behind starting center Myles Turner.

Huff is on an affordable contract, which aligns well with Indiana’s cap-conscious approach as they continue to build around their core led by Tyrese Haliburton.

The Pacers are expected to keep Huff as part of their bench rotation heading into the 2025–26 season.
