The New York Knicks are closing in on finalizing their head coaching search after conducting initial interviews in recent weeks.
According to James L. Edwards III of The Athletic, Mike Brown has been invited back for a second interview on Tuesday. The franchise is also considering additional second meetings with James Borrego and Micah Nori, multiple league sources report.
The Knicks’ search has faced early obstacles as several teams declined to allow interviews with their current coaches. Chicago refused to grant permission to speak with Billy Donovan, while Atlanta blocked access to Quin Snyder. Jason Kidd, who coached the Dallas Mavericks to a Western Conference Play-In appearance, was also off-limits.
Jenkins, 40, was dismissed despite the Grizzlies holding a strong 44–29 record this season. Brown was fired after a 13–18 start but previously led Sacramento to 48 wins and a playoff berth in the 2022–23 campaign.
The coaching vacancy became official when the Knicks parted ways with Tom Thibodeau. Thibodeau guided the team to consecutive 50-win seasons and a third-place finish in the Eastern Conference this year.
