The New York Knicks’ coaching search has hit repeated roadblocks as multiple teams have denied their requests to speak with sitting head coaches.

According to KC Johnson, the Chicago Bulls turned down New York’s request to interview Billy Donovan. The Bulls reportedly view Donovan as a core piece of their structure, valuing his leadership and communication across all levels of the franchise.

Shams Charania of ESPN reported that the Atlanta Hawks also rejected an approach from the Knicks to speak with Quin Snyder. The team was described as “firm” in its denial, showing no willingness to entertain the idea of losing their coach.

These rejections follow a similar response from the Dallas Mavericks, who dismissed New York’s attempt to pursue Jason Kidd. Charania noted the Mavericks immediately declined the request, with sources indicating that Dallas has no intention of allowing other organizations to initiate conversations with Kidd.

New York has made multiple inquiries across the league. Previous efforts to engage with Minnesota Timberwolves coach Chris Finch and Houston Rockets coach Ime Udoka were also denied.

Despite finishing third in the East with a 51–31 record, the Knicks moved on from Tom Thibodeau after five seasons. The decision followed back-to-back 50-win campaigns and a deep postseason run, but management is now focused on finding a coach they believe can elevate the team to title contention.
