Clint Capela is reuniting with the Houston Rockets after agreeing to a three-year, $21.5 million contract, marking his return to the franchise where he began his NBA career.
Capela, who was traded from Houston to the Atlanta Hawks during the 2020 trade deadline, had most recently been playing under a two-year, $46 million extension he signed with Atlanta in 2021.
During the 2023-24 season, Capela contributed 8.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game while averaging just over 21 minutes across 55 appearances.
Though no longer the double-double machine he once was, Capela brings valuable size, rebounding, and rim protection to a Rockets frontcourt that already includes Alperen Sengun and Steven Adams.
According to Jake Fischer, Houston will acquire Capela through a sign-and-trade arrangement with Atlanta. To facilitate the deal, the Rockets will send the Hawks a 2031 second-round pick swap and cash considerations.
The move gives Houston added depth at the center position and brings a familiar veteran presence back into the fold as the team continues to build toward playoff contention.
