The San Antonio Spurs have agreed to a four-year, $41 million contract with free agent center Luke Kornet, according to NBA insider Shams Charania. The 7-foot-2 big man spent the last four seasons with the Boston Celtics before entering unrestricted free agency.
Kornet, 29, appeared in a career-high 73 games in the 2024-25 season, starting 16 times for the Celtics. He averaged 6.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks in 18.6 minutes per game while shooting an efficient 66.8% from the field. His defensive presence was valuable during stretches when key Celtics big men Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford were sidelined.
Boston finished the regular season 61–21, second in the Eastern Conference, but the Spurs ended 34–48 and missed the playoffs. San Antonio has been focusing on strengthening its interior defense and rebounding, areas where Kornet’s skill set could contribute immediately.
In the 2025 playoffs, Kornet averaged 4.5 points and 3.9 rebounds in 16.4 minutes across 11 games, shooting 72.4% from the floor. His ability to defend without fouling and protect the rim fits the Spurs’ need for more reliable frontcourt depth alongside rising star Victor Wembanyama.
Kornet went undrafted in 2017 but has built a steady NBA career, playing for the Knicks, Bulls, Celtics, Cavaliers, and Bucks. Known for his length and shot-blocking, he offers veteran experience to a Spurs team aiming to improve in the Western Conference standings.
The addition of Kornet follows San Antonio’s recent draft selections, including 2025 first-round picks Dylan Harper and Carter Bryant, as the franchise seeks to balance youth and experience moving forward.
