Despite internal frustrations and looming roster questions, Domantas Sabonis is not seeking an exit from Sacramento, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic. The veteran center is reportedly engaged in constructive offseason conversations with Kings general manager Scott Perry and new head coach Doug Christie.
Sources close to the situation told The Athletic that Sacramento remains committed to Sabonis as a franchise cornerstone, even amid broader organizational changes. The Kings recently parted ways with longtime head coach Mike Brown and traded All-Star guard De’Aaron Fox to San Antonio, signaling a new era for the franchise.
Sabonis, 29, remains under contract through the 2027–28 season. He signed a four-year, $186 million extension in July 2023 and is entering the second year of that deal.
The Lithuanian big man finished the 2024–25 season averaging 19.1 points, 13.9 rebounds, and 6.0 assists across 70 games. He shot 59.0 percent from the field and a career-high 41.7 percent from three.
Sabonis ranked among the league’s top rebounders again this season, anchoring a Kings team that ultimately fell short of playoff contention.
Sacramento was eliminated in the Western Conference play-in round after a loss to the Dallas Mavericks, finishing 40–42 and ninth in the standings.
While the Kings are expected to explore the trade market this summer—potentially involving high-salary players like DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine—league insiders do not anticipate Sabonis being moved. His leadership and consistent production remain valued within the organization.
Amick noted that although Sabonis was frustrated by how the Fox trade was handled, he has not requested a trade and has kept open communication with the new front office. His willingness to engage in Sacramento’s long-term plans could be key to the team’s upcoming retool.
