Top draft prospect Cooper Flagg delivered a standout performance during his private workout with the Dallas Mavericks this week, reinforcing his status as the franchise’s preferred choice for the No. 1 overall pick.
Noah Weber of The Smoking Cuban reported that Flagg’s visit included a Tuesday dinner with team executives followed by a Wednesday workout session with current Mavericks players. According to league sources, the 18-year-old forward “was unreal” on the court.
Dallas has been locked in on Flagg since landing the top pick in the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery. The Mavericks have not scheduled visits with any other prospects.
Flagg, a 6-foot-9 forward from Maine, impressed team officials by knocking down perimeter shots and showcasing advanced versatility. His ability to space the floor had been a concern entering the draft process, particularly with a frontcourt that already includes Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively II, and Daniel Gafford.
However, team personnel left the workout with renewed confidence in Flagg’s shooting range and all-around skillset. Sources described him as a “complete beast” and praised his feel for the game.
Flagg is widely projected to be the No. 1 pick in the June 25 draft. He was a standout at the NBA Draft Combine and has earned comparisons to two-way forwards capable of anchoring defenses while contributing offensively.
The Mavericks are looking to pivot toward a younger core after Luka Doncic’s trade to the Lakers earlier this year. With Davis leading the frontcourt and veterans still on the roster, the addition of Flagg would provide a two-way upgrade at the forward position.
Dallas finished the 2024-25 season 39-43, securing the 10th seed in the West and the franchise’s first-ever No. 1 overall selection via the draft lottery.
Flagg’s camp is reportedly aligned with Dallas, and he has not entertained workouts with other teams ahead of the draft. That includes the San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers, Charlotte Hornets, and Utah Jazz—who round out the top five.
The 2025 NBA Draft will be held on June 25 and 26.
