Cooper Flagg, widely projected as the top pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, has decided to focus exclusively on one team during the pre-draft process, the Dallas Mavericks.
According to a report by Mark Medina of RG, this singular commitment was confirmed in a conversation with Flagg’s trainer, Matt MacKenzie.
“He’ll be able to tour their facilities and learn about the organization as a whole,” MacKenzie explained. “So it’s something he’s definitely looking forward to. It’s the only team he’s going to go visit. He’s very excited for it.”
This selective approach highlights Flagg’s strong interest in the Mavericks and suggests a level of confidence between player and franchise rarely seen before draft night.
Flagg’s preparation ahead of the draft has also placed him among elite company. His workouts have overlapped with NBA veterans like Kevin Durant and Chris Paul.
While he had the opportunity to observe Durant’s training firsthand, it was Paul who offered guidance with a different focus – helping Flagg mentally and professionally prepare for life in the NBA beyond just the hardwood.
“I think Chris Paul has been really helpful in sharing the different things that you need to be aware of when you’re coming into the league as a rookie in terms of how to manage your time off the court,” MacKenzie said.
“During your downtime, you need to make sure you’re also treating your recovery with importance and understanding that 82 games is a long season… Being able to get that input has been incredibly valuable.”
Flagg’s development has been deliberately shaped with flexibility in mind. Praised for his all-around game, he’s been training to take on any role his future team may ask of him.
As MacKenzie emphasized, Flagg’s workouts have been intentionally diverse, ensuring he’s ready to contribute wherever he’s needed from day one.
