The draw for the basketball tournament at the Rio Olympics was made today at FIBA’s headquarters and their will be an early rematch of last summer’s Eurobasket final between Spain and Lithuania that highlights the group phases.

Spain and Lithuania are joined by hosts Brazil and neighbours Argentina, who will continue their rivalry in Rio with Nigeria and an Olympic Qualifier rounding up the group.

World Cup winners and Olympic gold medalists USA will not know half of their opponents until the Olympic Qualifying Tournament concludes on July 10, but they will face Australia, Venezuela and China in the opening round.

The women’s draw was also made at FIBA’s headquarters today with a battle between reigning world and Olympic champions USA and Eurobasket Women holders Serbia headlining the conformed clashes.

Canada and Senegal make up the group with two qualifying winners making up the pool.

Australia, Japan and hosts Brazil are based in the other group with three other qualifiers finishing it off.
