Knicks backup guard Cameron Payne has gradually been phased out of New York’s rotation, despite head coach Tom Thibodeau expanding his bench lineup to feature experienced players like Landry Shamet and Delon Wright, according to Jared Schwartz of The New York Post.

Payne appeared in all 14 of the Knicks’ playoff games so far, but his playing time has been limited to an average of just 7.2 minutes per contest.

Recently, however, he has not even been active for the team’s last three games, remaining a healthy scratch.

With Payne currently on a veteran’s minimum contract that expires soon, his absence from the rotation raises questions about his long-term role with the Knicks, as it appears he may be jeopardizing his chances of securing a future with the franchise.

Payne has played 10 seasons for 7 teams, including the Suns and Bulls. He has averaged 7.8 points and 3.2 assists in 477 regular-season games.
