Jonathan Kuminga, the Golden State Warriors forward, spoke candidly about his uncertain future as restricted free agency approaches. At his end-of-season press conference, Kuminga repeatedly said, “I don’t know” when asked about his next steps in the NBA.

Kuminga emphasized that he is focused on figuring things out during the offseason, explaining, “We just finished playing one day ago, so I haven’t thought about anything yet.” He acknowledged the ups and downs of his four-year tenure with Golden State but said, “I had fun” and “enjoyed playing here.”

When asked if he had something to prove during the playoffs, Kuminga responded, “I don’t think about proving. I just should go out there and win.” He highlighted his defensive improvement after a moment Draymond Green pointed out on the court, stating, “Defensively, I got better—so much better.”

Reflecting on his playoff experience this season, Kuminga said he plans to review game film and learn how to be more impactful in future opportunities. He also mentioned significant personal growth, adding, “I’ve grown a lot—as a player, as a person.”

Regarding his role and the uncertainty of his contract, Kuminga said, “I don’t know what the future’s going to be,” but expressed optimism that someone will talk to him about his place next year. He insisted the unsettled contract situation did not affect his play this season, stating, “I ain’t know what the future hold, so anything that happened probably happened for a reason.”

Kuminga also discussed his physical health, saying, “I feel good. I feel healthy and good,” and described his exit interviews with coach Steve Kerr as positive. He mentioned Kerr’s feedback on rebounding and expressed willingness to continue communication with the coaching staff during the offseason.

Despite the challenges of injury and a changing roster, Kuminga described the season as “successful” and “great,” emphasizing the lessons learned and support from family, friends, and teammates. He credited his faith and community for helping him through tough moments.

Looking ahead, Kuminga plans a gym-focused summer to improve his game, saying, “I’m trying to stay local as much as I can this year. I want to have a great season next year.”

The 22-year-old forward is set to become a restricted free agent after his four-year rookie deal expires this summer. His 2024-25 season averages include 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.
