Russell Westbrook shared his thoughts after his Denver Nuggets secured a crucial 131-115 win over the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 5 on Tuesday. The victory, fueled by Jamal Murray’s 43-point performance, gave Denver a 3-2 series lead, just one win away from advancing to the next round.

After missing Game 4 due to a left foot injury, Westbrook returned to the court with determination. “I’m just grateful, a lot of gratitude,” he said, highlighting how much he values every opportunity to play, especially in the playoffs. “I don’t take the game for granted,” Westbrook added, acknowledging the tough defense the Clippers have displayed throughout the season.

When asked about the team’s improved rhythm during Game 5, Westbrook credited better spacing and pace. “We did a good job of setting the tone with our defense and spacing,” he explained. Westbrook noted how the Clippers’ defensive strategies, including cross-matches, required constant focus and execution, and he felt the Nuggets did just that.

Westbrook’s performance was pivotal, with 21 points in just 25 minutes of action. His first-half 16-point burst set the tone, and his presence provided much-needed energy for Denver. “Basketball is a rhythm game,” Westbrook remarked. “For me, energy and effort are what help me get into a good rhythm.”

Jamal Murray’s breakout 43-point game was a highlight for Denver. Westbrook had high praise for his teammate, saying, “When Jamal is aggressive, we’re a different team. We’re tough to beat when he’s playing with that swagger.”

Despite his on-court heroics, Westbrook emphasized his role as an energy provider. He acknowledged that while his contributions may not always show up in the box score, they are vital to the team’s success. “It’s contagious,” Westbrook said. “I take pride in bringing that every night for my team.”

Even after years of playoff experience, Westbrook finds joy in moments like these. “I have so much gratitude for the game,” he shared. “I live for moments like this. My fun may look different, but when I’m competing at the highest level, I’m having the best time.”

Regarding his injury, Westbrook admitted he wasn’t entirely sure how he hurt his foot but emphasized his commitment to returning quickly. “I’ve been in the gym, getting treatment, and staying locked in,” he said. “It’s about being a professional and being ready for the next game.”

Game 6 is set for Thursday, with Denver looking to close out the series.
