Shannon Sharpe is taking a temporary leave from ESPN after being accused of sexual assault and battery in a $50 million lawsuit filed by a woman known as “Jane Doe.”
The alleged incidents occurred in late 2024 and early 2025.
Sharpe has firmly denied all accusations, calling the relationship consensual and the lawsuit a “shakedown.”
In a statement, Sharpe said he’s stepping away to focus on his family and address the allegations, with plans to return before the NFL preseason. ESPN supported his decision, calling the situation serious.
Sharpe’s attorney, Lanny Davis, also denied the claims and revealed that a $10 million settlement offer was previously on the table but withdrawn.
Davis presented text messages he says show a consensual relationship involving fantasy and roleplay.
He also confirmed a video exists but claims it’s misleading and part of an attempt to damage Sharpe’s reputation.
Meanwhile, attorney Tony Buzbee, representing the plaintiff, confirmed the video’s existence, calling it damning and stating it will be shown in court.
He denied any editing or manipulation and accused Sharpe’s team of attacking both the accuser and himself.
Stephen A. Smith, Sharpe’s “First Take” co-host, commented on the matter, saying it’s a “sad situation” and that Sharpe maintains his innocence.
