The New Orleans Pelicans have reshaped their front office leadership, officially hiring Troy Weaver as their new general manager.

In his new role, Weaver will report directly to Joe Dumars, who was recently brought on as the team’s executive vice president of basketball operations following the dismissal of David Griffin earlier this offseason.

Weaver brings a wealth of experience to New Orleans, having spent over a decade in NBA front offices.

Most recently, he worked as a consultant for the Washington Wizards during the past season, offering guidance and insight from an advisory position.

Before that, he served as the general manager of the Detroit Pistons for four years, where he oversaw roster construction and led the team through a rebuilding phase focused on young talent and draft capital.

Before his time in Detroit, Weaver was a longtime executive with the Oklahoma City Thunder, joining the organization in 2008.

He was initially hired as vice president and assistant general manager and later promoted to vice president of basketball operations ahead of the 2017–18 season.

During his tenure in Oklahoma City, he played a key role in building a roster that featured stars like Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden and helped establish the Thunder as a perennial playoff contender.

With Weaver now taking on the general manager role in New Orleans, the Pelicans are signaling a commitment to building a stronger, more competitive roster under the guidance of experienced leadership.

His connection with Dumars – himself a respected NBA executive and Hall of Famer – will be critical as the organization aims to chart a new course following recent underwhelming seasons.
