The Indiana Pacers are aiming to re-sign free-agent center Myles Turner this offseason, but they face a significant challenge as they have no plans to exceed the luxury tax for the first time since 2005.
Currently, the Pacers are projected to start the offseason approximately $22 million under the luxury tax threshold.
Turner, whose salary this season is team-friendly due to a renegotiated contract, is likely seeking a raise from his current $19.9 million, which could bring his new deal closer to the tax line.
To retain Turner and fill out the roster without surpassing the luxury tax, the Pacers will need to make some moves.
While they have several veterans on long-term contracts, the presence of younger players like Bennedict Mathurin, Ben Sheppard, and Jarace Walker, who are still on their rookie-scale deals, gives them some flexibility.
However, balancing the books while keeping Turner in the fold will require careful roster adjustments.
