Jimmy Butler’s return to Miami took an unexpected turn as his comments about Heat president Pat Riley fueled further tension between the two. Ahead of Golden State’s 112-86 loss to Miami on Tuesday night, Butler told TNT’s Taylor Rooks, “I have nothing to say to Pat. And Pat better have nothing to say to me.”
The six-time All-Star, who led the Heat to two NBA Finals appearances, was traded to the Warriors on February 6 after a season filled with internal conflicts. His exit followed multiple suspensions, and his camp reportedly criticized Riley for an emotional moment in which the executive attempted to connect with Butler over the loss of his father.
Miami, unfazed by Butler’s return, dominated from start to finish. Bam Adebayo led all scorers with 27 points, while Tyler Herro contributed 20 as the Heat shot 68% from beyond the arc. Alec Burks added 18 points off the bench, helping Miami improve to 31-41 on the season.
Golden State, playing without Stephen Curry for the second straight game, struggled offensively. Jonathan Kuminga led the Warriors with 15 points, while rookies Brandin Podziemski and Gui Santos chipped in 14 and 13, respectively. The team shot just 39.8% from the field and 23.7% from three-point range.
The Heat built a 17-point lead by halftime, holding the Warriors’ starting lineup to just 10 points in the first two quarters. Adebayo dominated inside, and Herro capitalized from deep, going 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. Miami’s defense stifled Golden State, forcing 14 turnovers and limiting their transition opportunities.
Nikola Jovic, who had been out for 16 games due to a hand injury, was cleared for basketball activities but did not see action. His potential return could provide a late-season boost for Miami as they aim to climb the Eastern Conference standings.
Despite Butler’s contributions to the franchise, the fractured relationship between him and the Heat’s front office remains a major storyline. Miami honored him with a tribute video before the game, but the night ultimately belonged to the Heat, who made a statement with a decisive victory.
