Wes Wilcox has emerged as a leading candidate for the general manager position at the University of Utah, with an agreement expected to be finalized soon.

Currently serving as the assistant general manager of the Sacramento Kings, Wilcox brings nearly 20 years of experience working in NBA front offices.

If the deal is completed, he will become the highest-ranking NBA executive to leave the league for a GM role at a major college basketball program.

Wilcox has a strong connection to Utah’s current head coach, Alex Jensen, having previously hired him as the head coach of the Canton Charge in the G League.

His experience in talent evaluation and roster building at both the professional and developmental levels could make him a valuable addition to Utah’s program.

Before joining the Kings, Wilcox served as the general manager of the Atlanta Hawks from 2015 to 2017, playing a key role in shaping the team’s roster during that time.

His extensive front-office background positions him well for a transition into the college basketball landscape.
