Milwaukee Bucks backup center Jericho Sims is pushing through a right thumb injury, one that may ultimately require surgery.
Head coach Doc Rivers acknowledged the severity of the issue, suggesting that a decision on Sims’ next steps will likely be necessary in the near future.
“It’s a pretty good injury. Probably decisions will have to be made,” Rivers admitted when asked about Sims’ condition.
When pressed on whether surgery is a realistic option, Rivers didn’t rule it out. “Yeah, it’s a consideration, for sure,” he confirmed.
Since being acquired by the Bucks at the trade deadline, Sims has appeared in 14 games, averaging 2.4 points and 4.9 rebounds in 15 minutes per contest.
With Bobby Portis currently serving a suspension, Sims has stepped into the role of backup center behind Brook Lopez, giving Milwaukee some much-needed depth in the frontcourt despite playing through discomfort.
