Former Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers believes Miami Heat’s potential pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo would require more than simply pairing the two-time MVP with Bam Adebayo.

Speaking on a recent episode with Bill Simmons, Rivers discussed the possibility of Giannis landing with the Heat and questioned the roster construction that could follow a blockbuster move.

“For him, Miami is the one I can’t figure out unless they have other moves. It’s him and Bam and you traded everybody else, where are you going?” Simmons said.

Rivers, who coached Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee before stepping down and being replaced by Taylor Jenkins after the season, focused on what Miami would potentially sacrifice in a deal.

“And you would’ve traded your closer because Tyler Herro is a closer,” Rivers said. “Say what you want about him, but he’s a straight up closer. My guess is, that’s where he’s trusting their front office that they have the ability to add more pieces.”

A potential Giannis trade package from Miami has reportedly centered around Herro, center Kel’el Ware and the No. 13 overall pick, with additional young players such as Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Kasparas Jakucionis also discussed. The Bucks would likely prioritize a combination of young talent and draft assets if they moved away from their franchise centerpiece.

Herro would also reportedly welcome a move to Milwaukee if a deal materialized. The 26-year-old guard is a Milwaukee-area native and would give the Bucks a proven perimeter scorer as they enter a potential rebuild or retooling phase.

During the 2025-26 season, Herro averaged 20.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 33 games while shooting 48.0% from the field, 37.8% from three-point range and 91.7% from the free-throw line.

Milwaukee finished the season 32-50 and missed the postseason, a major shift after years of contention built around Antetokounmpo. The Bucks’ next direction remains one of the biggest storylines of the offseason as teams monitor whether Giannis could become available.
