The Dallas Mavericks are dealing with an unprecedented wave of injuries, leaving them severely shorthanded as they approach the final stretch of the season.

The latest setback came on Friday night when Dante Exum suffered a broken bone in his left hand, adding yet another name to the team’s growing list of long-term absences.

With Exum sidelined, the Mavericks now have just eight fully healthy players available.

Complicating matters further, two of those eight players – Kessler Edwards and Brandon Williams – are on two-way contracts, meaning their availability is limited.

Edwards is eligible to play in only three more NBA games this season, while Williams has six remaining.

Meanwhile, Dallas still has 14 games left on the schedule, creating a serious depth issue that could force the team into difficult lineup decisions.

Although the Mavericks technically have an open roster spot, financial restrictions prevent them from making an immediate signing.

The team is just under the first-apron hard cap, which means they won’t be able to add a free agent until there are only four days left in the regular season.

By that point, Dallas would have just two games remaining, severely limiting the impact of any late addition.

NBA rules mandate that teams must dress at least eight players for each game. In past instances, some teams have managed to meet this requirement by dressing injured players who are unable to play.

With their roster in crisis, the Mavericks may have to consider similar measures just to remain compliant with league regulations as they push through the remainder of the season.
