Anthony Davis addressed Dallas Mavericks fans following the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, assuring them that they are not without a star.

Speaking about the fanbase’s reaction to Doncic’s departure, Davis acknowledged the disappointment surrounding the move. “I know the whole city was down because of the Luka thing,” he said, via NBA Analysis.

The eight-time All-Star made it clear that he intends to fill the void left by the former franchise player. “At the same time, you know, I know who I am as a player. I’m top 75 of all time, and I just want to let the Dallas fans [know], like, ‘Hey, I got you, I’m here now.’”

Davis, who arrived in Dallas as part of the trade that sent Doncic to Los Angeles, emphasized his confidence in his ability. “So, like, I know you lost a superstar Luka, but you also gain a superstar myself,” he added.

Despite his optimism, the Mavericks’ season has taken a serious hit, as Davis’ availability for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign is in doubt. He suffered an adductor strain in his Dallas debut, and reports suggest that he may not return this season.

NBA insider Shams Charania provided an update on ESPN’s NBA Countdown, stating, “It’s very possible that Anthony Davis has played his last game this season for the Mavericks.”

The injury comes at a critical time, with Dallas struggling to maintain its position in the Western Conference standings. The team holds a 32-32 record, sitting 10th in the conference with a slim three-game lead over the Phoenix Suns for the final play-in spot.

Compounding the Mavericks’ issues is the loss of Kyrie Irving, who suffered a season-ending ACL tear. With both of their star acquisitions sidelined, Dallas faces a significant challenge in its push for the postseason.

Davis was playing at an elite level before his injury, averaging 25.7 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.2 blocks per game across 42 contests. His presence was expected to elevate the Mavericks’ defense and interior scoring.
