Pheonix Suns players and coaches have been pleased – but not surprised – by two-way guard Collin Gillespie’s recent contributions to their winning efforts.
Over the Suns’ last two victories, Gillespie has recorded 19 points, seven assists, and three three-pointers, showcasing his impact on the court.
“It just seems like a story in itself, an all-time moment for him and a big moment for our team,” Devin Booker said, per PHNX Sports. “I’ve seen behind the scenes, it’s nothing that just popped up out of nowhere. I don’t think it caught any of us by surprise.”
Gillespie began his career on a two-way deal with the Nuggets but missed his entire first season due to injury. After spending a second year in Denver, he joined the Suns this offseason.
“There’s a lot of confidence in him,” Suns head coach Mike Budenholzer said, per PHNX Sports. “Collin just has a way, I think all his teammates love him. There’s a toughness, I think the Villanova coaching, the Villanova winning, it’s real.”
Gillespie has played 2 seasons for the Suns and Nuggets. He has averaged 3.5 points in 33 regular-season games.
