Mac McClung made history at the 2025 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, securing his third straight title with a flawless performance. The Orlando Magic G Leaguer became the first player ever to win the contest three consecutive times, cementing his legacy in the event’s history.
McClung set the tone early, leaping over a Kia for a reverse dunk that immediately put the competition on notice. From that moment on, he controlled the night, finishing every dunk with precision and flair.
San Antonio Spurs rookie Stephon Castle made it to the final round, but McClung left no doubt when he completed a dunk involving two basketballs, one of which he grabbed from the rim before throwing it down. His performance earned him straight 50s from the judges.
“It kind of feels like a blur,” McClung said after the contest. “It’s something I love doing. That’s where my creativity comes is I genuinely love this contest and I love to dunk.”
The event took place in the Bay Area, the same location where Vince Carter famously declared “It’s over” after winning the 2000 Slam Dunk Contest. Twenty-five years later, McClung delivered a performance worthy of the same proclamation.
With this victory, McClung further solidified his reputation as one of the greatest dunk contest performers ever. His creativity, vertical leap, and ability to execute under pressure have set him apart in an event that has often struggled to maintain excitement in recent years.
McClung’s three-peat puts him in elite company, surpassing past greats who have won multiple times but never three in a row. The question now is whether he will return in 2026 to extend his streak or retire from the event on top.
