The Dallas Mavericks made significant moves at the trade deadline by acquiring Anthony Davis and Caleb Martin. During an appearance on Run It Back on FanDuel TV, Sam Amick from The Athletic provided insights into what may be in store for the Mavs this summer.
The team reportedly has its sights set on potentially pursuing Kevin Durant or LeBron James in the offseason. Durant’s status with the Phoenix Suns remains uncertain, particularly after he was involved in trade discussions before the deadline.
As for James, any path to Dallas would likely require him to exercise his player option and request a trade since the Mavericks are unlikely to have the cap space to sign him outright if he becomes a free agent.
The vision for the Mavericks’ front office, led by GM Nico Harrison, appears to be forming a star trio alongside Davis and Kyrie Irving. Durant has a history with Irving from their time together with the Brooklyn Nets, while Davis and James were teammates on the Los Angeles Lakers until the recent trade deadline.
