The Philadelphia 76ers provided the first public look at LeBron James and Jaylen Brown playing together as teammates during Saturday’s Blue vs. White scrimmage.
Philadelphia streamed the scrimmage on YouTube on October 3, with clips from the event subsequently circulating on social media. Among them were early glimpses of James and Brown in their first preseason action with the 76ers.
One of the clips showed Tyrese Maxey connecting with James on a lob. James finished the play with a two-handed dunk, providing an early look at the connection between Philadelphia’s returning All-Star guard and its biggest offseason addition.
Another clip featured Brown attacking the basket. Brown drove past Ariel Hukporti before finishing with a reverse layup.
The scrimmage represents the beginning of a new chapter for the 76ers, who dramatically reshaped their roster during the offseason. Philadelphia acquired Brown from the Boston Celtics in exchange for Paul George and added James in free agency on a two-year minimum contract with a player option for the second season.
The moves give the 76ers a starting group built around James, Brown, Maxey and Joel Embiid, with VJ Edgecombe also entering his second NBA season after being selected third overall in the 2025 NBA Draft.
Maxey was Philadelphia’s leading scorer last season, averaging 28.3 points and 6.6 assists in 70 games while shooting 36.7% from three-point range. Embiid averaged 26.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.9 assists in 38 appearances.
Brown, meanwhile, joins Philadelphia after averaging career-high 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists for Boston in 2025-26. His arrival gives the 76ers another primary scorer and two-way option alongside their established stars.
James is entering his 24th NBA season after spending the previous eight years with the Los Angeles Lakers. He averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists in 60 games last season.
The 76ers finished 45-37 in 2025-26 before being swept by the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference semifinals. The organization responded by making major changes to its roster, with the goal of building around its four established stars.
Philadelphia will continue preparing for the regular season, with the 76ers scheduled to open their campaign at home against the Knicks on October 20.
