Brooklyn Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez has announced his decision to step down from his role as head coach of Team Canada.

While Fernandez refrained from offering detailed comments before Brooklyn’s game on Wednesday, he acknowledged the situation by stating, “In fairness to Canada Basketball, I want them to make the announcement. And then once they do, I’ll be able to answer all your questions.”

As of now, Canada Basketball has not issued any formal statement regarding Fernandez’s departure.

Fernandez’s tenure with the national team was marked by notable success. He guided Team Canada to a historic bronze medal at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, where they defeated Team USA in a memorable matchup.

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Canada went undefeated during pool play before being eliminated by the host nation, France, in the quarterfinals. His contributions have played a pivotal role in elevating the status of Canadian basketball on the international stage.
