Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George was forced to leave Saturday’s victory against the Chicago Bulls prematurely after suffering an injury to his left pinky finger.
The veteran wing, who has been a key piece for the Sixers this season, exited the game after playing just 13 minutes.
Following the win, Sixers head coach Nick Nurse confirmed that George will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury and assess whether he will face additional time on the sidelines.
George’s exit marks another injury blow for the Sixers, who are already dealing with several absences in their rotation.
The team’s big offseason acquisition has now missed 14 games this season due to a combination of injuries and rest management, disrupting what was expected to be a significant impact campaign for him in Philadelphia.
The Sixers are also navigating injuries to key players like Joel Embiid, their MVP-caliber big man, along with rotation wings Cody Martin and K.J. Martin.
Veteran center Andre Drummond has been dealing with lingering issues that have caused him to miss time sporadically, and guard Jared McCain has been ruled out for the entire season.
This string of injuries has forced the 76ers to dig deep into their roster, relying on less-experienced players to step up.
While George’s ability to contribute on both ends of the floor has been a valuable asset when healthy, the Sixers will now have to prepare for the possibility of his absence for upcoming games.
