Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic highlights that there is significant “dissent” among key European basketball figures regarding the potential impact of the NBA’s entry into the European market.

Some are optimistic about the NBA’s influence, with one EuroLeague club owner noting, “I think the NBA walks into the European business and revenues go up a whole bunch. I don’t know how they do that, but they’re experts at it.”

This owner believes that the NBA’s brand power and expertise would significantly boost financial opportunities in the region.

However, not all figures share this optimistic view. Vorkunov points out that another club owner is more skeptical about the potential for success, raising concerns about market competition.

Another owner doesn’t believe there is enough room for both the EuroLeague and a new NBA-run league to coexist and thrive in Europe simultaneously.

This disagreement reflects a deeper divide within European basketball circles about how the NBA’s entry could alter the landscape and whether it would benefit or harm the existing leagues.
