Oklahoma City Thunder forward Jalen Williams recently praised the unwavering loyalty of Thunder fans, describing them as the opposite of “front-runner” supporters. Speaking on The Old Man and The Three podcast, Williams highlighted how Thunder fans stay engaged regardless of the team’s success or setbacks.
“Thunder fans are elite,” Williams said, via HoopsHype. “They weren’t just there for the wins—they were there for the journey. Some fanbases are front-runners. They’re like, “Wake me up when you make the Finals,” and if you don’t, they’re not interested. Thunder fans are the opposite. They’re with you every step, paying attention to the little things—almost as if they’re in the locker room with us.”
The 23-year-old forward’s comments come as Oklahoma City enjoys a stellar season, holding the best record in the Western Conference at 33-6. Only the Cleveland Cavaliers, at 34-5, have a better record in the NBA. Williams has been instrumental in the Thunder’s success, averaging 20.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game.
Williams also credited the fans’ reaction to last year’s playoff loss as a testament to their dedication. Instead of losing interest after the Thunder’s exit, fans continued to support the team, focusing on their growth and potential.
This season, the Thunder have emerged as legitimate contenders, led by Williams and MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who has been an offensive powerhouse, consistently putting up big numbers and bolstering the Thunder’s championship aspirations.
The Thunder’s fanbase, widely recognized as one of the most passionate in the league, has played a significant role in creating a supportive environment for the young team. From sellout crowds at Paycom Center to their presence on social media, Thunder fans have proven their commitment to the franchise’s journey.
