San Antonio Spurs veteran Chris Paul praised teammate Victor Wembanyama for his humility and exceptional play after a standout performance in a recent win over the Los Angeles Lakers.
Wembanyama put up impressive numbers, scoring 23 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, dishing out 5 assists, and adding 3 steals and 2 blocks. After the game, Paul made a strong case for the 20-year-old to be included in this year’s All-Star Game.
“Put him in the All-Star Game. He deserves it, man,” Paul said during postgame press conference. “He plays the game the right way. As humble of a star as you’d ever come across. Going to be Defensive Player of the Year. He got an opportunity to do it for 20 years straight. You know what I mean? Seriously, he’s just an unbelievable player. I say this every time I talk about him I wish everybody got to know him on a personal basis. If you knew him like that, you’d be a bigger fan of his.”
Wembanyama’s contributions have been critical for the Spurs this season. In his second NBA campaign, the 7-foot-3 sensation is averaging 25.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game. His all-around performance has helped the Spurs stay competitive, currently sitting 10th in the Western Conference with a 19-19 record.
Paul, who has seen his fair share of star players over his long career, has been particularly impressed by Wembanyama’s demeanor on and off the court. The young phenom’s combination of skill and humility has quickly earned him respect from veteran players like Paul.
As the Spurs continue their playoff push, Wembanyama’s contributions are expected to play a major role. His remarkable performance and standout qualities have made him a strong candidate for this season’s All-Star selection.
