Trae Young delivered a dramatic 49-foot buzzer-beating three-pointer to propel the Atlanta Hawks (19-18) to a 124-121 victory over the Utah Jazz (9-26) on Tuesday night.
Young’s heroic shot came just seconds after Collin Sexton nailed a game-tying three-pointer for Utah with four seconds remaining. Receiving the inbounds pass, Young advanced the ball just past halfcourt before launching the game-winning shot over Sexton’s loose defense as time expired.
The All-Star guard capped an impressive performance with 24 points and a season-high 20 assists, leading Atlanta to snap its three-game losing streak.
Clint Capela added 18 points on 9-of-11 shooting, while Dyson Daniels chipped in 16 points, seven assists, and six rebounds. De’Andre Hunter also contributed 17 points, including a clutch three-pointer late in the game.
Lauri Markkanen shined for the Jazz with a season-best 35 points, including eight three-pointers, both of which were personal highs this season. Sexton finished with 24 points, and Walker Kessler posted a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
The game saw numerous lead changes in the closing minutes, with both teams trading key baskets. After Kessler’s back-to-back dunks gave Utah a 114-113 lead late in the fourth quarter, Young responded with a step-back three-pointer to regain the advantage for Atlanta. Hunter followed with a go-ahead three-pointer, assisted by Young, with 1:57 left on the clock.
Atlanta employed a balanced offensive attack, with seven players scoring in double figures. The Hawks shot 48% from the field and connected on 18 of their 44 three-point attempts (40.9%). Despite their strong start, including a 16-point lead in the second quarter, the Hawks had to fend off Utah’s relentless comeback attempts.
Utah, though falling short, showed resilience after trailing by double digits early. The Jazz shot 39.6% from beyond the arc, hitting 19 three-pointers overall. However, they committed 15 turnovers, which proved costly in critical moments.
Atlanta’s bench provided a spark, with Bogdan Bogdanovic scoring 11 points and Garrison Mathews adding nine. Utah’s reserves also contributed, with Patty Mills scoring 13 points, including three three-pointers, but it wasn’t enough to match Young’s heroics.
