Norman Powell delivered a stellar 35-point performance as the Los Angeles Clippers (19-13) secured a narrow 116-113 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans (5-28) on Monday night. James Harden added 27 points, including clutch free throws with 17.9 seconds remaining, to lift the Clippers to their 19th win of the season.

The Pelicans, who have now lost 10 straight games and 19 of their last 20, had a chance to tie the game late. Yves Missi, who recorded 12 points, nine rebounds, and five blocks, missed a critical free throw with 4.3 seconds left. A premature whistle by officials caused confusion, leading to a jump ball at center court after a video review.

Ivica Zubac won the ensuing tip-off, allowing Harden to sink two more free throws with less than two seconds on the clock. CJ McCollum’s half-court attempt to force overtime narrowly missed, hitting the front rim. McCollum led the Pelicans with 33 points, including eight three-pointers, while Trey Murphy and Herb Jones each contributed 18 points.

The Clippers trailed for most of the game and never led by more than four points. Los Angeles overcame a 14-point deficit late in the second quarter, sparked by an 11-3 run to close the half. Zubac played a pivotal role in the comeback, finishing with 20 points, 16 rebounds, and seven offensive boards.

Powell was instrumental throughout, shooting 13-of-27 from the field and hitting four three-pointers. Harden complemented his scoring with four assists, while Zubac’s dominance on the glass and defensive presence helped the Clippers capitalize on second-chance opportunities.

New Orleans, despite hitting a season-best 18 three-pointers, struggled to close out the game. Dejounte Murray added a double-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and six steals, while Jones and Missi provided balanced contributions. However, the Pelicans’ inability to convert late-game chances proved costly.

The Clippers’ defensive adjustments in the second half were key to their victory. Los Angeles held the Pelicans to 23 points in the third quarter, limiting their open looks beyond the arc. Additionally, the Clippers’ advantage in the paint (56-44) and at the free-throw line (21-11) helped them weather the Pelicans’ hot shooting from deep.
