Suns two-way guard Collin Gillespie, who was diagnosed with a right ankle fracture last month, is optimistic about making his return to the court shortly after the G League’s regular season starts next week, as reported by Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic.
Gillespie discussed his rehabilitation plan, saying, “I haven’t really talked to the coaches about it, but I’m sure that’ll be the plan of making sure I check off all the boxes here, individual workouts.”
He explained his strategy for gradually increasing his activity: “Play 2-on-2, 3-on-3 and just build it up until I’m ready to go 5-on-5.”
Gillespie plans to take a step-by-step approach to ensure he’s fully prepared before rejoining the team for full games.
Once the team returns from the Winter Showcase break, he anticipates having some home games with the Valley Suns, Phoenix’s G League affiliate, where he can begin playing again.
“Hopefully get some reps there,” Gillespie added, emphasizing his desire to get back into the flow of the game.
The Valley Suns are set to begin their regular season next Monday, providing the player with a clear target date for his return as he works to regain his full fitness and contribute to his team.
Gillespie has played 2 seasons for the Suns and Nuggets. He has averaged 3.6 points in 25 regular-season games.
