Heat guard Dru Smith has been ruled out for the season after tearing his left Achilles tendon, Shams Charania reports. Smith exited Monday’s game with a serious leg injury, accompanied by his wife as he headed to the locker room (South Florida Sun Sentinel).

Undrafted out of Missouri in 2021, Smith played in the G League before debuting with Miami on a two-way contract in 2022. After recovering from a torn right ACL suffered last season, he rejoined the Heat this summer and recently secured a rotation role, averaging 9.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 2.3 steals in his last eight games.

The injury is a tough break for Smith, who was close to earning a standard roster spot. With a roster deadline looming on December 29, Miami may promote another two-way player, call up a G League player, or sign a free agent.
