Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick made a notable adjustment to the starting lineup on Friday, opting to start Gabe Vincent over D’Angelo Russell.
The change paid off as Vincent delivered a strong performance, contributing 12 points and five assists in his second start of the season, according to Khobi Price of The Orange County Register.
Those 12 points mark Vincent’s highest-scoring output in a Lakers uniform. Over his last four games, Vincent has been averaging 9.0 points while shooting 37.5% from beyond the arc, showing signs of growing consistency.
“I just tried to compete on both ends like I always do,” Vincent said. “The ball was in my hands a little more. I tried to create where I could. I tried to find guys where I could.
“Tried to take care of the ball. I was trying to win. I’m about winning, so I’m pretty frustrated with the loss. But it happens.”
Though Vincent dealt with lingering injury issues throughout most of last season, he seems to be regaining his rhythm and rounding into form, a positive development for a Lakers team looking to solidify its rotations and bounce back from recent struggles.
