Gabe Vincent reflected on the Lakers’ performance after Wednesday’s 129-99 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. “Basketball is a game of runs… we just couldn’t really find our legs and find the juice, the spark, whatever you want to call it, to come back and get into the game,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of starting strong in upcoming games. “It’s a point of emphasis for us every night… tonight was a little shaky, but it’s something we want to have moving forward,” Vincent said.
Vincent also highlighted Bronny James’ presence on the court. “He was a light towards the end of the game for us for sure… it was cool for him to have that kind of moment here,” he said.
On Bronny’s maturity, Vincent added, “I tell him all the time, he handles all of it so well… his maturity through it all is incredible.”
The Lakers guard addressed Luka Doncic’s ankle scare after slipping off the court. “It’s tough whenever one of your key guys goes down… we’re fortunate that he’s okay. It wasn’t a horrific injury,” he said.
Vincent reflected on seeing young players face adversity in Cleveland. “Dru Smith… it hurt my heart to see him go through that. I hate to see guys go down in that manner away from the game,” he said.
Despite scoring 29 points, Luka Doncic’s effort wasn’t enough to overcome the Cavaliers’ dominant third quarter, where they outscored Los Angeles by 20 points. Cleveland was led by Donovan Mitchell with 25 points, Jaylon Tyson with 20, and Jarrett Allen with 17 points and nine rebounds.
Vincent noted that low energy and missed rotations contributed to the team’s struggles. “We just couldn’t really find the juice, the spark… it’s a point of emphasis going into the next game,” he said.
The Lakers fell to 3-2 on their seven-game road trip, while Cleveland improved to 29-20 and captured their fifth straight win. Both teams will play Friday night on the road, with Los Angeles at Washington and Cleveland at Phoenix.
