Lou Williams recently weighed in on the rumors surrounding Tyrese Maxey’s reported confrontation with Joel Embiid during a Philadelphia 76ers team meeting.
The incident, where Maxey allegedly called out Embiid for being habitually late, has sparked speculation about the team’s internal dynamics.
On the latest episode of FanDuel TV’s Run It Back, Williams, who is a co-host alongside Michelle Beadle and Chandler Parsons, offered his perspective.
He shared, “I ended up on the phone with a few guys from the 76ers. By all accounts, [Tyrese Maxey calling out Joel Embiid] was blown out of proportion… They were sitting next to each other when we were on the phone, laughing and giggling.”
The exchange between Maxey and Embiid, which initially seemed like a heated dispute, appears to have been more of a lighthearted moment, according to Williams.
Despite the tension that could come from such an interaction, it seems that the two players are on good terms and not at odds as initially reported.
Philadelphia’s ongoing struggles, including a 2-12 record that currently places them at the bottom of the NBA standings, have added fuel to the speculation.
With the team missing several key players due to injuries, including Embiid, Maxey, and newly acquired Paul George, the 76ers have been unable to find any consistency on the court.
Embiid has appeared in just three games this season, while Maxey and George have each suited up for only seven. The absence of these stars has made it even harder for the Sixers to get on track, leading to frustration that might have contributed to the team’s internal conversation.
