Anthony Davis has provided a positive update on his recent eye injury, confirming he is cleared to play in the Los Angeles Lakers’ upcoming matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies.
The star forward was forced to leave Sunday’s win over the Toronto Raptors early after suffering a left eye injury. Despite the injury, Davis is set to return to action in the Lakers’ next game.
Davis spoke to the media on Tuesday after practice, revealing that the injury involved a few scratches on his eye. “A couple scratches in my eye,” he said. His eye was still red and clouded.
The injury occurred during the third quarter of the game against Toronto when Jakob Poeltl’s off-hand inadvertently struck Davis in the face as Poeltl attempted a dunk.
Davis had scored 22 points before the incident, and his absence in the second half raised concerns among Lakers fans. However, the team managed to secure a comfortable win, led by Austin Reaves, who scored 27 points.
LeBron James also contributed significantly, posting 19 points and a season-high 16 assists to record his second consecutive triple-double and the 115th of his career.
Despite the injury scare, Davis’ status for the upcoming game against the Grizzlies was cleared by the Lakers’ medical team.
The Lakers will be hopeful that Davis’ eye injury does not affect his performance moving forward, as he has been in excellent form this season. He is currently averaging a career-high 31.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 2 blocks per game.
The Lakers’ victory over Toronto improved their season record to 6-4. They will face off against the Grizzlies, who are 7-4, in what promises to be a highly competitive game.
