The NBA is raising the stakes for its 2024 NBA Cup, announcing an increase in prize money for players competing in the tournament.
This move aims to further motivate players as the league continues to build excitement around the event, now in its second edition with Emirates as the title sponsor.
According to Jeff Zillgitt’s tweet, players on the winning team of the NBA Cup championship will receive a significant payout. Each member of the championship-winning squad will earn $514,970, a substantial increase in financial rewards compared to previous years.
Players on the losing team in the championship game won’t walk away empty-handed. Each member of the runner-up team will receive $205,988, a notable sum that further incentivizes teams to push for success in the tournament’s final stages.
In addition to the top two teams, players who make it to the semifinals but fall short of the final will also receive generous compensation. The losing players from the semifinal matchups will take home $102,994 each.
The incentive structure continues with those who exit in the quarterfinals, with players earning $51,497 for making it that far in the competition.
The NBA Cup, now entering its second year, has quickly become a highly anticipated event on the league’s calendar. With these increases in prize money, the league hopes to intensify the competition and raise the stakes for teams battling for the trophy.
