The Washington Wizards have opted not to pick up Patrick Baldwin Jr.’s team option for the 2025-26 season, which would have been his fourth year on the rookie scale. As a result, Baldwin will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2025.
If the Wizards decide to re-sign Baldwin at that point, they’ll be limited to offering him a first-year salary of no more than $4.4 million, the amount of his declined option. Washington is also positioning itself to potentially open up around $30 million in cap space next offseason.
Before the season, Wizards GM Will Dawkins noted that the team is still in a “deconstruction phase,” suggesting that additional moves may be on the horizon.
This season, the Wizards are likely to explore trade options for several veteran players, including Kyle Kuzma, Jonas Valanciunas, and Malcolm Brogdon.
