The Charlotte Hornets have claimed Jared Rhoden off waivers, and he is expected to join the team on a Two-Way contract, which allows him to split time between the Hornets and their G League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm.

This type of deal is ideal for developing players like Rhoden, as it allows him to gain experience at both the NBA and G League levels.

Rhoden made his NBA debut last season with the Detroit Pistons, appearing in 17 games. During that time, he posted modest averages of 4.9 points and 1.9 rebounds while playing 14.4 minutes per game.

Though his playing time was limited, he demonstrated flashes of his ability to contribute off the bench, particularly with his hustle and defense.

In the 2023 preseason, Rhoden suited up for the Toronto Raptors, appearing in three games. He averaged 2.7 points and 2.0 rebounds in just under six minutes of play per game, showing he could provide depth as a versatile wing player.

Despite his limited preseason minutes, his combination of size, athleticism, and defensive potential made him a prospect teams were interested in, leading the Hornets to take a chance on him.

With the Hornets, Rhoden will have the opportunity to develop his game further, especially with a two-way contract that will allow him to get more playing time in the G League.

This signing comes as part of the Hornets’ broader strategy to invest in young talent, adding depth to their roster while continuing to develop players for the future.

Rhoden’s ability to contribute on both ends of the floor could make him a valuable asset as he works to secure a more permanent role in the NBA.
