Second-round draft pick Jamal Shead displayed his impressive defensive abilities during the Toronto Raptors’ preseason game against the Washington Wizards on Sunday.

He found himself matched up against fellow rookie Carlton Carrington, who struggled significantly, missing all six of his shot attempts and recording three turnovers.

Reflecting on their matchup, Shead shared with Michael Grange of Sportsnet, “Me and him have a little bit of a history; he got the best of me in a pre-draft workout. So I had to come out and make it as hard as possible.”

Shead acknowledged Carrington’s potential, saying, “He’s going to be really good, but I had to give him a taste of NBA-ready defense.”

This performance underscored Shead’s commitment to asserting himself defensively and proving his readiness for the league.
