Former NBA star Rajon Rondo pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge following a traffic stop in southern Indiana earlier this year, according WDRB.
The two-time NBA champion admitted to unlawful possession of a firearm as part of a plea deal.
The plea agreement resulted in the dismissal of marijuana and drug paraphernalia charges initially brought against him.
Rondo received a sentence of 180 days in jail, which was suspended, meaning he will not serve additional time behind bars.
He was credited for two days already served and was placed on probation for 180 days.
The case had been delayed for months while awaiting a ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court on a similar charge related to the unlawful possession of a firearm.
In June, the Supreme Court upheld a federal law that prohibits individuals under a domestic-violence restraining order from owning a gun.
The court’s 8-1 decision affirmed that the law does not violate the Constitution’s Second Amendment, undermining Rondo’s defense that the gun charge was unconstitutional.
As a result, the August 1 trial date for Rondo was canceled, leading to the resolution of the case through the plea deal.
