Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers aims to instill a winning culture within the franchise to secure their second title by working with his former floor general, Rajon Rondo, on the coaching staff.
Rondo served as a consultant for the Bucks last season and is now back this year with an expanded role as a coaching associate who strategizes plays with the team’s backcourt.
“He was with us last year, and I called him this summer and I said, ‘Hey, we need you involved, around,” Rivers said.
With Milwaukee’s victory over the Chicago Bulls on Friday, the head tactician commended Rondo for his presence, as they had studied the game much more closely in the past.
“He’s been fantastic. I called him this summer and said hey, we need you involved. He watches tons of film. He’s chasing guys down, like, no no no, we’re gonna watch film first. Him, Ryan, Cole, Scoot, they just sit and watch film. They hear my voice all the time. It’s great for them to hear someone else,” he added.
Rondo is a two-time NBA champion and started his career with the Boston Celtics as Rivers’s head coach in 2006.
“Let me do all the thinking for you. I’ll put you in the right spots. I’ll put the other guys in the right spots, so the game is easier for you,” Rondo told Bucks forward Thanasis Antetokounmpo on the latter’s Thanalysis podcast.
