Klay Thompson believes he can be the “missing piece” for the Dallas Mavericks, a sentiment he expressed after joining the team this offseason.
Thompson, a four-time NBA champion, recently discussed his potential impact on the Mavericks, particularly his fit alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.
“I can be that missing piece for them,” Thompson said, highlighting his ability to complement the team’s star players with his shooting and experience.
He emphasized the appeal of playing with Doncic and Irving, noting their chemistry and how it influenced his decision to join Dallas.
Thompson acknowledged that he may not be as fast or jump as high as he once did, but he remains confident in his shooting ability.
“At this point in my career, I might not be able to run as fast… but I can still knock down open shots,” Thompson stated.
He added that opposing defenses would struggle to double-team Doncic and Irving with him on the floor, given his reputation as a lethal shooter.
Last season, Thompson averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game, showing that he still has plenty left in the tank.
Thompson recently attended a Mavericks offseason workout in Los Angeles, further integrating himself with his new teammates.
